Tickets On Sale Now for Candlelight Dinner Focused on Elizabeth Haddon Estaugh
We hope you’ll join us on Wednesday March 31 for our annual Candlelight Dinner and Virtual General Membership Meeting.
For the second year, the program itself will be virtual, with a presentation by Kristen Beales, PhD, on “Elizabeth Haddon Estaugh and the South Sea Bubble” from 7-8 pm.
(If you purchased your tickets by March 24, you also had an opportunity to order an optional take-home dinner from Valente’s Cucina in Haddonfield. Dinner orders are now closed.)
For the main program, starting after a brief membership meeting, Kristen will be discussing Elizabeth Haddon Estaugh’s involvement in one of the world’s first major international financial panics: the South Sea Bubble of 1720. Believe it or not, Elizabeth Estaugh and her husband John were embroiled in a decades-long scandal within the transatlantic Quaker community that followed the collapse of the South Sea Company. Elizabeth’s work to defend her husband after his death in 1742 illuminates the role that women and religion played in early modern finance.
VIP ticket-holders will be invited to join a pre-event virtual cocktail conversation with Kristen from 6:30-7 pm. Don’t miss out!
You can order your tickets online or send us the order form in the March 2021 Bulletin newsletter, which will be arriving in mailboxes soon. You can also call the office or send us an email with any questions: [email protected] or 856-429-7375.
The program itself will be presented via Zoom. We will send out the link for the event the day before the program, along with brief instructions.
We look forward to seeing you on March 31st!
