For our next general membership meeting, the Historical Society will be welcoming author Fred Barnum for “An Illustrated History of RCA Victor.”

The presentation will be held on Wednesday November 20 at 7:30 pm at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 204 Wayne Ave., Haddonfield. Members are free, with a suggested donation of $5 for nonmembers. The church asks that attendees consider bringing a canned food item for its food pantry.

A long-time employee of RCA and its successor companies, Barnum will be sharing a visual history of the company. Barnum has unique expertise on the company: he not only authored a landmark book for RCA Victor’s 90th anniversary, but he also helped preserve the company’s history by transferring hundreds of boxes of its records and photographs to the Hagley Museum and Library in Wilmington, DE.

He’ll be sharing some of those rare images with us on Nov. 20. We hope you’ll join us for this captivating presentation on what was once the largest employer in New Jersey.

UPDATE: As part of our December 1 “Harvest Time in Haddonfield” open house and pop-up display, we will be offering tastings of several historic recipes and making corn husk dolls while supplies last. Dianne Snodgrass, who oversees the Historical Society’s museum collections, will present a brief program at 2 pm about harvest time and historic cooking.

The Historical Society will create another new pop-up display for our December 1 “First Sunday” open hours: “Harvest Time in Haddonfield.”

The pop-up display will be on view on Sunday December 1 from 1-3 pm on the first floor of Greenfield Hall, 343 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield. Admission is free, but donations are always welcome.

As with our previous pop-up displays, we’ll be pulling out a selection of items from our archival and museum collections that help illustrate the theme. We also offer tours of Greenfield Hall on First Sundays, and the Archives Center will be open for researchers upon request.

The pop-up display will continue through December and be available for viewing during Greenfield Hall’s public hours (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1-4 pm) or by special appointment at another time.

For this month’s “First Sunday” on November 3, the Historical Society will be offering open hours ONLY in the archives center in the Mickle House. Researchers are welcome to stop by between 1-3 pm.

Greenfield Hall will be closed for this month’s “First Sunday” so we can clean up after our annual Haunted Mansion event. We hope you’ll join us next month, on Sunday December 1, when we’ll be sharing a new pop-up display on “Harvest Time in Haddonfield.”
