Book Club Plans Virtual Discussion for January 25

The Historical Society’s Book Club is planning a virtual get-together for its January 25, 2021 discussion.

We’ll be meeting Monday January 25 at 7 pm via Zoom.us, in conjunction with the Haddonfield Public Library’s Book Club. We’ll be discussing The Warmth of Other Suns, by Isabel Wilkerson.

This nonfiction book chronicles the decades-long “Great Migration” of African Americans fleeing the South for northern and western cities in search of a better life. Wilkerson’s book is a National Book Critics Circle Award winner, and at least 12 publications named it one of the best books of the year when it was published. The New Yorker calls it a “deeply affecting, finely crafted and heroic book,” and the Wall Street Journal calls it a “brilliant and stirring epic.”

The Book Club discussion will be held as a Zoom.us video chat. If you’re interested in joining us, please RSVP to in**@ha****************.org and we’ll send you the Zoom link (and some basic instructions) the day of the discussion.

Next Virtual Book Club Discussion Planned for November 17

The Historical Society’s Book Club will hold its next virtual discussion on Tuesday November 17 at 7 pm.

We’ll be discussing Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, by Irin Carmon and Shana Knizhnik. The digital book is available through the Haddonfield Public Library’s web site using Hoopla.

This book is a “breezy, fun, and thoughtful take” on the life of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, who passed away on September 18.

As always, all are welcome to join us for the discussion, even if you haven’t finished one of the suggested books.

The Historical Society’s next virtual Book Club discussion will examine the important role that African American women played in the suffrage and civil rights movements and beyond.

We hope you’ll join us for a Zoom discussion on Tuesday September 15 at 7 pm. Since our multiple-book discussion worked so well in July, we’re planning another for September. We invite you to read any of the following:

Option 2: The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks, by Jeanne Theoharis (2013)

The Historical Society of Haddonfield’s Book Club has added an extra virtual get-together this summer to commemorate the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage.

We hope you’ll join us for a Zoom discussion on Tuesday July 14 at 7 pm. For this meeting, we will be discussing the struggle for suffrage. We invite you to read any of the following:
