The Historical Society of Haddonfield will be holding a special in-person fundraising event on Wednesday June 9 at King’s Road Brewing Company, 131 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield.
Tickets are on sale now for this unique evening with Dr. Patrick McGovern, known as the “Indiana Jones of Ancient Ale.” The main program on “Ancient Ales” begins at 7 pm, with a limited number of tickets available for a VIP pre-event with Dr. McGovern starting at 6:15 pm. King’s Road Brewing Company will be open ONLY to ticket holders for the evening.
Dr. McGovern will present on the history of alcohol and its relationship to evolution, the discovery of ancient beverages, and more. Dr. McGovern is a Scientific Director at the Penn Museum in Philadelphia and an Adjunct Professor of Anthropology. He is the author of several books, including Ancient Brews, Rediscovered and Re-created, and will have copies available for signing.
Also, on this night, King’s Road will release their own ancient ale, Gordian Knot, brewed in collaboration with Dr. McGovern and using his recipes. Ticket holders will be the first to get a chance to taste this complex, co-fermented brew, made with saffron and honey.
The evening is sponsored by WhitePenny – a full-service brand and digital strategy firm based in Haddonfield. Light fare and snacks will be provided, with some snacks generously donated by Sparrow’s Gourmet Snacks. All proceeds benefit the Historical Society of Haddonfield.

The VIP pre-event is limited to 50 ticket-holders and costs an additional $35 (for a total cost of $135 per person). All ticket holders must be at least 21 years old.
